Southwell is a small town in Nottinghamshire, which lies on the River Greet about five miles to the west of Newark-on-Trent and some fourteen miles northeast of Nottingham. It is the site of Southwell Minster, the seat of the Church of England Diocese which covers Nottinghamshire. Apart from the Minster, another church of note is the Methodist church at Southwell, which has an old right-of-way running right underneath it, necessitating a far larger upstairs seating area than the one downstairs. Southwell is also noted for being the birthplace of the famous Bramley Cooking Apple.
