South Stoke is a small picturesque village which is set on the banks of the River Thames in the county of Oxfordshire. It has an intriguing history which dates as far back in time as the Saxon settlers who lived here and farmed the land, the invading Romans who built the Icknield Way nearby, and the Medieval Monks who lived here and kept their ancient fish ponds stocked up, the remains of which can still be found close by. A gentle walk around the lanes will unveil attractive cottages, stunning black and white timber framed houses, and an impressive 13th Century church dedicated to St Andrew which has 14th Century glass that has stood the test of time.
