Slapewath is a tiny hamlet, near Guisborough in North Yorkshire in northern England, on the edge of the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, the setting for the television series ‘Heartbeat’. The Cleveland Way runs right through Slapewath, as it wends its way to the North Sea coastline. In Old English, the name Slapewath means ‘slippery crossing’. The small hamlet was the site of a former railway station on the Guisborough to Saltburn line, until it was closed in the 1950’s.
