Shotley Bridge is a picturesque village positioned in the Derwent Valley in the county of Durham in north east England. It's surrounded by beautiful countryside and woodland and dates back to the Bronze Age. From its agricultural beginnings, it grew and prospered and is perhaps famed for its fine craftsmanship in the production of sword making which was undertaken by German master craftsman who fled from persecution in the 17th Century. The village is on the banks of the River Derwent and near to the town of Consett.
