Shepton Beauchamp is a small village and civil parish situated in the county of Somerset. It can be found four miles north east of Ilminster in between the Blackdown Hills and the Somerset Levels. The word 'Shepton' has Saxon origins and means literally 'sheep settlement'. Beauchamp (pronounced 'Beecham') was added to honour the Beauchamp family who held the manor there from the mid 12th century. In 1361 the manor passed to the Seymour family. Sir John Seymour resided in Shepton Beauchamp when he was the High Sheriff of Somerset (1515-16).
