Formerly Seaham Harbour, Seaham is a small town on the North Sea coastline of County Durham in north east England. Twinned with the German town of Gerlingen, situated thirteen miles east of the city of Durham and six miles south of Sunderland with which it has historic ties. A small farming community until the early nineteenth century, the harbour was built in 1828 by the 3rd Marquess of Londonderry who bought the estate from the Milbankes, whose daughter Anne Isabella Milbanke was married for a short time to Lord Byron.
