The tiny village of Scotton (with a population of just 283 at the 2001 census) sits a couple of miles north west of Knaresborough, easy to access from junction 47 of the A1(M). Scotton makes a good base for trips to Harrogate and Knaresborough, and the route to York is an easy one too. The river Nidd runs to the south of the village, and there are some beautiful woodland paths that take the walker along its banks. Near the old flax mill there is an impressive weir to add interest to a stroll in the countryside.
