The area known as Sandwell lies in what is known as the Black Country in the Midlands and is made up of several towns, Oldbury, Rowley Regis, Smethwick, Tipton, Wednesbury and West Bromwich. Each of these towns has their own separate and diverse identity, Oldbury is right in the centre of Sandwell and can trace its history back to Anglo Saxon Times and the heavy industry of yesteryear has now been replaced with retail and industrial parks with this also being home to Sandwell Council. With Rowley Regis astride the Rowley Hills famous for Rowley Rag stone which through the 20th century was used in road construction.
