Around twelve miles east of Middlesbrough in North Yorkshire in north east England, on the North Sea coast, lies the popular seaside and surfing resort of Saltburn-by-the-Sea. It is located on the Cleveland Way and to the north east of the town is the large Huntcliff topped by Warsett Hill. A popular Victorian resort with many buildings from that era, the pier has recently been renovated. It was the site of one of the world’s oldest water-powered vertical cliff lifts but the Saltburn tramway replaced the vertical lift in 1883 on safety grounds.
