Rotherhithe is an area in south-east London in the London Borough of Southwark. It is located on a peninsula facing Wapping and the Isle of Dogs, and is a part of the Docklands area. Rotherhithe was where the Mayflower ship set off on its journey to carry the Pilgrim Fathers to America in 1620. The historic Mayflower pub on Rotherhithe Street stands by the site where it set sail from. The pub has its own jetty. The district is often referred to as Surrey Docks or Surrey Quays as most of it was covered by the now-defunct Surrey Commercial Docks.
