Pwllheli is located on the Llyn Peninsula, much of which is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, in North West Wales on the edge of Cardigan Bay where it enjoys a mild climate and relishes in the title as the unofficial capital of the Llyn Peninsula. Sitting on the convergence of two rivers, the Erch and Rhyd-Hir it is no wonder that part of the towns history is intertwined with shipping. The harbour was established in the 18th century and whilst it was a subsidiary port to Beaumaris it was able to accommodate ships up to 60 tons and was always busy.
