Prestwick is a town in south Ayrshire, situated near Ayr and Troon. Prestwick is the oldest Royal burgh in Scotland with the charter dated 1600. Prestwick is famous for its International Airport and as the home of golf. The airfield was developed in 1935 and used during World War II as an RAF Headquarters before becoming Glasgow Prestwick International Airport. In 1960 Elvis Presley, had a two hour stop-over here during his National Service. Golf has been popular since the Old Course opened in 1851.
