A former village, Ormesby is situated six miles west of Guisborough, overlooking the course of the river Tees amd the southern part of county Durham in north east England. Now an urbansed suburb of Middlesbrough, it remains within the county of North Yorkshire, some of it falling in the borough of Cleveland and Redcar. The original Ormesby village was formed in 1023 and was the original owner of Ormesby Hall. Ormesby Hall, a modern mansion, built by Mrs Pennyman, daughter of archbishop Wake, is situated on an eminence, at a little distance from the village, towards the south, “commanding a pleasing prospect of the mouth of the Tees, and the Seaâ€.
