North Uist is a small island in the Outer Hebrides in Scotland situated between Harris and Benbecula. Settlers on the island date back to the Neolithic era with the chambered cairn at Barpa Langass, which sits between Lochmaddy and Clachan and there are three bronze-age standing stones on the western slopes of Blashaval in the north-west of the island known as ‘Na Fir Bhreige’ or ‘the false men’. The island measures just 12 miles north to south and by 16 miles east to west, it is a popular tourist destination ideal for walking, climbing, nature-watching and fishing, including crab and lobster fishing.
