Newcastle Emlyn is a charming, small, town located 14 miles northwest of Carmarthen on the A484. The town developed around the C13 castle overlooking the river Teifi – though only ruins remain today. During the C18 and C19 this was an important part of the drover’s route through Wales - these days it is less busy. Newcastle Emlyn itself contains some quirky individual shops including the two-part Sioux & Hat Box worth a visit for a range of yarns, beads and accessories as well as the more obvious hats! Ededa J for clothes and Fleurs de Paris ( rumoured to have royal patronage ) for decorations and gifts also makes the high street tempting but if shopping is not your thing, the countryside around here is well worth exploring.
