Muir of Ord is a large picturesque village in the Highlands of Scotland, situated on the western edge of the Black Isle, 14 miles north-west of Inverness. Muir of Ord was previously the hamlet of Tarradale, the new road systems built in 1814 increased the traffic and led to the growth of the village, flat land south of Tarradale was selected for cattle-drovers to congregate and from 1820 this was the location of large Trysts (cattle markets) on the site known as Muir of Ord. The railway arrived in 1862 with a station at Tarradale however the station was name after the Tryst site and gradually Tarradale was no longer used.
