Montacute is a small Somerset village situated four miles west of Yeovil. It provides easy access to the A303 trunk road, which runs from Basingstoke in Hampshire to Honiton in Devon. The village was originally known as Logaresburch by the Saxons, when the estate was owned by King Harold's royal standard bearer Tofig. It was later renamed Montacute, although opinion seems divided as to the exact origins of the name. One opinion is that the name is derived from the Latin 'Mons Acutus' after a small but particularly steep hill that dominates the village.
