Mildenhall, a pretty market town on the River Lark in Suffolk’s fen country, is known to have been settled since pre-historic times – Neolithic objects have been found in the area, including a wonderful pottery bowl. The area continued to be of importance through the Roman occupation of Britain, a fact emphasized by the find in 1943 (only revealed in 1946) of “The Mildenhall Treasureâ€, now kept in the British Museum. Details of the treasure are to be seen in the Mildenhall Museum in King Street.
