Mells is a village in Somerset, situated about three miles west of Frome and 14 miles from the historic city of Bath. The village appears to have been known by the name Iron Burgh around the year 1500. This would seem to be due to the rich deposits of Iron Ore extracted in the area at the time. The ironworks of James Fussell were leased in 1744 from John Horner. John Horner is perhaps better known as 'Little Jack Horner'. Legend has it that he was given a Christmas Pie to deliver by the Abbot of Glastonbury Abbey with the deeds to a dozen manors.
