Melbourn is a large village in the far south west of Cambridgeshire with over 4400 inhabitants. It has a primary school and a state secondary school, Melbourn Village College. There is very ancient history including evidence of a settlement several thousand years ago. The Romans had a camp here and archaeologists excavating Saxon graves found many interesting artifacts. Mentioned in the Doomsday Book (1086 AD) the village was then called Meldeburna, recording 2460 acres of arable land and 55 heads of family.
