Mauchline is an interesting town set close to the Ayr River in Ayrshire, Scotland, and is home to just over four thousand people. Its fascinating history can be traced as far back as the 7th Century when a bloody battle was fought between the Picts and the Scots on Mauchline Moor. Remnants of the town's past is there to be seen from the church where a flag hangs inside which has seen many battles, to the ruins of an Abbey that was built by Cistercian Monks in the 1100's. From a small settlement the town grew with the Quarrying of Sandstone playing its part together with the renowned Mauchline Ware, and clock making.
