Lydney, on the banks of the River Seven, lies astride the old main road from Gloucester to Chepstow on the southern edge of the Forest of dean. It has been an important centre of the Forest for centuries. The remains of Roman Forts, a Villa, along with pottery,statues coins etc. have been found in Lydney Park to the west of the town.
