Loddon, a small but growing community situated roughly halfway between Norwich and Lowestoft, is the most southerly Norfolk town linked to the Broads network. This is thanks to its location on the river Chet, a tributary of the Yare, which is navigable as far as Loddon. There are several boatyards located in the town serving the cruiser trade, and a sizeable mooring at Loddon Staithe. The town’s watermill was mentioned in the Domesday Book, and there is still an old wooden mill building standing over the river, although these days it is a residential and commercial centre.
