Lasswade is a historic village in Midlothian in Scotland situated between Loanhead and Dalkeith, nine miles south-west of Edinburgh. Lasswade was well-known in the 18th and 19th centuries for its paper mills powered by the fast-flowing water of the River North Esk. Famous residents of Lasswade include Sir Walter Scott who spent six years at Lasswade College and artist William McTaggart (1889), whose work features the Moorfoot hills which stand to the south of the village. The village is surrounded by rolling hills, picturesque scenery and is a popular tourist destination ideally located for touring Edinburgh and the Borders.
