Ladybank is a small historic town in the heart of the Kingdom of Fife in Scotland, in an area known as the Howe of Fife, situated five miles south-west of Cupar and 12 miles west of St. Andrews. The original settlement here was known as Monkstown, used by the monks of Lindores Abbey to cut peat, the boggy land was drained for the arrival of the railway c1850 and Ladybank developed as a railway town receiving burgh status in 1878 for its linen and malting industries. Ladybank railway station is the oldest unaltered station in Scotland displaying a fine example of 19th century architecture and operating frequent train services to Edinburgh, Dundee and Perth.
