Knutsford is located in the heart of Cheshire and records show that as far to before the Domesday Book there was a place here known as Cunetesford, a name thought to be derived in honour of King Canute One of its most famous residents was the authoress of a book dealing with drug addiction, poverty and unemployment, she also wrote a story about an unmarried mother amongst many others – she was Elizabeth Gaskell – and the novels mentioned above are Mary Barton and Ruth but perhaps she is best remembered for her literary biography The Life of Charlotte Bronte.
