Kirknewton is a small village in West Lothian in Scotland situated to the west of the Pentland Hills 10 miles south-west of Edinburgh and three miles from Livingston. The village developed during the 19th century with oil-shale mining and quarrying although there is evidence of a settlement dating back to the Iron Age with forts on Kaimes Hill and Dalmahoy Hill. Surrounded by open farmland and rolling hills Kirknewton has the look of a rural village, it is a popular tourist destination and an ideal base for exploring Edinburgh and the Lothians.
