Kirkcudbright is a historic town with a working harbour in Dumfries and Galloway in Scotland, situated on the Solway coast on the banks of the River Dee 28 miles south-west of Dumfries. Kirkcudbright was granted Royal Burgh status in 1330. Kirkcudbright, pronounced kir-coo-bree, was named from the ‘Kirk of St Cuthbert’ the town had been an important ecclesial centre with the monastery established in 1000AD.
