Kington is an historic market town on the English/Welsh border and was originally referred to as 'Chingtune' in the Domesday Book of 1086. Before the Industrial Revolution, Kington owed its importance to its agricultural base and its strategic line of communication between England and Wales. Today Kington is an ideal touring centre to explore both England and Wales, whether on foot or by car. There are many varied opportunities for walking including the Mortimer Trail, from Kington-Ludlow. The town possesses a most attractive riverside recreation ground which houses the town's cricket club and is the venue for many local outdoor events, the Golf Club's 18-hole course on Bradnor Hill is said to be the highest in England and Wales, over 390 meters above sea level.
