Kilmarnock is a large industrial town situated between Glasgow and Ayr on the River Irvine in East Ayrshire, Scotland. Kilmarnock is thought to have been established when 7th century Saint Mernoc or Marnoch, founded the church. Kilmarnock became a burgh of barony in 1591. The town is noted for its connection with Robert Burns when he came to Kilmarnock in 1786 to have the first edition of his works published. Kilmarnock developed during the Industrial Revolution in 19th century with the arrival of the railway.
