Iwerne Minster is a village situated in the North of Dorset. It is in the Blackmore Vale and under Cranborne Chase. The village lies on the A350 with Shaftesbury to the north and Blandford Forum to the south. It is a very small village with a population of around 900 (according the 2001 census), the major employer in the village is a cheese shop that employs about 57 people. The village takes its name from the River Iwerne which flows south and on into the Stour. Iwerne is an ancient Celtic name, probably meaning 'yew-tree stream', it was recorded as Iwern broc in the 10th century but is certainly much older than that.
