Invergordon is a town and a major port in the Highlands of Scotland, situated on the north shore of the Cromarty Firth. Invergordon was once a small port and castle of Inverbreakie operating a ferry service to the Black Isle; during the 18th century it was bought, re-planned and re-named by William Gordon of Embo. The new larger harbour was built in 1828, making an excellent port with the sheltered deep water. During World War II Invergordon was used as a naval base for flying boats Invergordon currently prospers from the oil industry with the oil rig in Nigg Bay.
