Invergarry is an attractive village in the Highlands of Scotland lying where the River Garry enters Loch Oich; which forms part of the Caledonian Canal. Invergarry is situated in the Great Glen between Loch Ness and Loch Lochty, 25 miles north of Fort William. Invergarry is well-know as the 17th century stronghold of the MacDonells of Glen Garry. They built Invergarry Castle, a five story L-plan tower house, on Ravens Rock on the west bank of Loch Oich. The castle has a turbulent history and was frequently attacked until finally in 1746 it was partially blown up by the Duke of Cumberland and never rebuilt.
