Mentioned in the Domesday Book with the meaning of High Town in an area then known as the West Derby Hundred and it wasn’t until 1300 that Huyton took the spelling that it is known by today. In the 19th century Huyton was embracing the Industrial Revolution, quarrying and mining was becoming firmly established in the area. It was the coming of the railways that was to further enhance Huyton’s reputation as an important location and today Huyton Station (the first passenger railway station in history dating back to 1830) remains an important link in the local transport system.
