Huntly is the principal town in the district of Strathbogie, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, lying on the main road from Aberdeen to Inverness, where the River Bogie joins the Deveron. This area is abundant with castles and is included in the unique ‘Castle Trail’. There are two standing stones near the town, indicating the area has been an ancient settlement. Huntly was originally known as, Milton of Strathbogie, with the castle dating back to c.1180. The Earl of Huntly was granted a charter in 1506 and changed the name, planning for the new town came in 1769.
