Horton-cum-Studley is a small village in the Cherwell District of Oxfordshire, 7.4 miles away from the city of Oxford. The village of Horton is one of the seven towns of an area of low lying land called Otmoor, and Studley, with its Priory, only became attached to it later. The Old Weir is the oldest house in Horton-cum-Studley, and reputedly in Oxfordshire, dated to about 1250. Studley Priory was built in 1176 as the Church of St Mary for holy women of the Benedictine order. During the Second World War Studley Priory was used as a hostel for evacuated London BBC staff.
