The village of Hook is to be found in North East Hampshire about six miles from Basingstoke and just north of Junction 5 of the M3. Hook originated from a small collection of dwellings along the roadside and owes its existence to the turnpike roads of the 18th century when, to the west of the village, a turnpike was built to aid navigation of Scures Hill to facilitate stagecoach progress through the county. There then followed the railways which local landowners campaigned for in order to more easily transport their produce to the rest of the country.
