Holme Pierrepont is a tiny hamlet just outside of Radcliffe-on-Trent in Nottinghamshire. It is in the Gamston ward of the Rushcliffe local authority. Its name is derived firstly (the holme part) from the Old English and Old Norse words meaning a small island or low lands by a river. The second part comes via the Pierrepont family who came over in 1066 with William the Conqueror and settled in Nottinghamshire in 1280. There is evidence of farming settlements in the area going back as far as the Neolithic age.
