Holland Park was never a poor place. Traditionally, it was home to well-to-do families from the upper middle classes, and in the late 1800s, it became famous for the Holland Park Circle, an influential community of artists, art collectors and architects who lived there. Today's Holland Park, with its leafy west-London avenues, large, immaculate houses and foreign embassies, is beyond the reach of all but the wealthiest home-buyers. The Royal Crescent is a particularly impressive sight, comprising two curving terraces of houses, several storeys high and painted white.
