The 800 year old village of Higham overlooks the Amber Valley in Derbyshire. Although the name “Higham†Is Saxon in origin, there are no records confirming its existence in Saxon times, there was no mention of such a settlement in the Domesday Survey of 1087. Once having no less than 23 wells, only 3 now remain, 1 of which is incorporated into the foyer of the local hotel. As with many Derbyshire towns and villages, Higham successfully blends the old with new and fine 17th Century houses stand comfortably alongside its renowned pubs.
