Gunnislake is an attractive village set in the eastern edge of Cornwall, and is home to nearly two thousand people. Its Cornish stone cottages rise steeply on the slopes of the Tamar Valley just across from the Tamar River. Lush, green countryside entice walkers to the area where a network of winding paths unravel, and yet it is only 20 miles or so from Plymouth. The village dates back several centuries and saw the arrival of the renowned artist Turner in 1813, who captured the stunning views, and the onset of a mining boom in the 19th Century, where the mining of Tin, Lead, and even Arsenic played its part, however, it was the mining of Copper which led to the growth and success of the area which saw shops, churches and pubs being built to cater to the rising population which at its height reached seven thousand.
