Looking out to the Firth Of Clyde, Gourock is a Renfrewshire town with the salty dog atmosphere of a Herman Melville novel, and a quiet charm that’s refreshed, replenished and restored by the sea air. Gourock as we know it today made its name as a fishing village; the white fish and herring fleets would dock in the town, with their catch ready to be cured or taken to market. Quarrying, rope-making and chandlery fortified the town’s economy as it grew. Nowadays the pace of life in the town has ebbed to the pleasingly sedentary.
