Gorebridge is a village in Midlothian in Scotland north of the Moorfoot Hills 12 miles south-east of Edinburgh. The village was planned and laid out in 1799 on land which was originally the Estate of Stobs, one of the 12 local estates gifted by King David I to the Knights Templar. During the17th and 18th centuries Gorebridge was a thriving mining settlement for coal-mining and its lime-works. Stobs Mill was the first gunpowder mill in Scotland which opened in 1793; the gunpowder made here was used in the Napoleonic War.
