The new town of Glenrothes was designated in 1948, in the centre of Fife occupying an area of natural beauty in east central Scotland. Glenrothes is an industrial town situated between Markinch and Leslie, astride the River Leven. Planned as a Garden City with landscaped gardens and low-rise suburban layouts, only the town centre has tall buildings. Glenrothes provides interesting examples of recent 20th century architecture including murals, artwork and sculptures. The Riverside Park was created in the grounds of the stately home, Leslie House.
