Fishguard, on the A487 between St David’s and Cardigan, is split into upper and lower towns. The upper contains the commercial centre with shops and hotels whilst the lower, nestling at the mouth of the Gwaun valley, is a fishing port with tidal quay. Fishguard hosts a lively annual folk music festival and for more Celtic connections, Strumble Head is the closest point to the Irish coast. Fishguard Harbour (confusingly nor actually in Fishguard but a mile away at Goodwick) is a major ferry port with high-speed catamaran crossings to Rosslare.
