Surrounded by the rolling hills of the South Downs, the village of Findon has managed to hang on to its identity despite the urban spread of Worthing, some 4 miles to the south. The village centre, called The Square, contains some fine 18th century flint and stuccoed fronted houses. The Gun Inn is built on the foundations of a 15th century Hall House, it was called the Muskett Gun in the 17th century; a little further down the High Street is the Findon Manor Hotel, originally the old Rectory dating from 1584.
