Ellon is a historic market town in north-east Scotland situated 17 miles north of Aberdeen and 13 miles north-west of Inverurie at a crossing on the Ythan Estuary Ellon was once the capital of Buchan burned by Robert the Bruce in 1308 for the ‘Harrying of Buchan’ after the defeat of the Comyns, although the original settlement dates back to the Pictish era. The town is a popular tourist destination with hotels, self-catering accommodation and B&B’s, it has a community centre and swimming pool, fishing, tennis and an 18-hole championship links golf course.
