Edzell is a historic village in the Angus region of Scotland situated six miles north of Brechin between Strathmore and the Howe of the Mearns. The original settlement in the area was Slateford, identifiable by the graveyard and the ruins of Edzell Castle, c1840 the local laird, the Earl of Panmure, built the new village of Edzell a mile further west. This planned Victorian village is easily recognisable by the Dalhousie Arch which straddles the road at the entrance to the village, erected in 1887 in memory the Earl and Countess of Dalhousie.
