Easingwold is the most southerly of Hambleton’s market towns and is only 13 miles north of York. As with many of the market towns in the area, Easingwold stands on the early coaching route north from York. The town’s origins are Saxon but there is no written record before the Domesday Book of 1086, and despite its history there are few buildings dating before the mid 18th Century, when Easingwold flourished as a coaching town. Inns and public houses were a feature of these towns and many fine examples remain to be enjoyed today.
