The old market town of Dursley (7miles southwest of Stroud) lies at the foot of the Cotswold escarpment in the Cam-Ewelme valley. The beech covered hills rise to 718 feet (219m) to Stinchcome Hill where spectacular views over the Vale of Berkeley and the River Seven are to be enjoyed. Granted Borough status in 1471 the town developed as a wool manufacturing centre (with 7 mills in the town by the 19th century) but it`s central location made it the market centre for the whole of the Vale of Berkeley.
